The APRA Music Awards are given songwriters and publishers that have achieved outstanding success in their fields. Nominations and winners across 13 categories are chosen either by the voting members of APRA (in excess of 60,000 eligible voters), members of the APRA Board or APRA based statistical analysis.

The 2013 APRA Music Awards will be held on Monday 17th June at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and we wish the best of luck to our crew!

Fresh off the road from performing with The Temper Trap and playing to record crowds on the recent national Groovin the Moo Festival, Alpine have announced this one last Australian headline show before departing for the USA.

On the June 1^st the band will embark on a US nation-wide tour with Crystal Fighters, in support of the US release of ‘A is for Alpine’, out 21^st May.

We wish these 6 wonderful people of  the best of luck on their travels. If you can get to see them in Melbourne, come help us give them a proper send off!

Reflecting on the album going gold, Lanie says:

“It’s a massive achievement to receive a gold record, and it gives all the people involved a chance to acknowledge and reflect on their hard work.

My bandmates, management, everyone involved in recording, mixing and mastering, Ivy League & Mushroom Group are all an integral part of everything I do. This would not have happen without their passion, skills and dedication! I am so grateful and very proud of everyone. I also thank profusely all the people who bought the album. You are the ones who make it all worth it, I’m so thrilled you enjoyed it!”

The success of the album was built upon a connection that Lanie established with her audience through tireless touring and great songs, inviting people into her own very distinct world.

It’s been a ride that’s covered recording and touring with Jack White, entering the ARIA album charts at #12, selling out her own national tours, multiple APRA and ARIA Award nominations, an FBI SMAC Award for Album of the Year, The Age EG Award for Best Female, the AIR Award for Best Blues and Roots album, appearances at every major festival, every minor festival and every point in between, and by pulling off the hardest trick of all – making an album that resonated with a lot of people. Importantly, Lanie has had the time of her life doing so.

As Lanie puts the finishing touches to a brand new set of songs that will make up album # 2 to be recorded later this year, Ivy League offer their heartiest congratulations to Lanie and her superb band, and look forward to the next exciting chapter.

In Josh’s words “Leeward Side is mostly about action. It’s about letting go, adventure, falling, finding yourself, getting lost, exploring, and being alone, but relishing that aloneness, all the while knowing that somewhere, there is someone who will always offer you a leeward side. It’s about knowing that people will outgrow you, but never your love for them”.

Written whilst on the road and recorded with John Castle (The Bamboos, Washington and The Drones), THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF EVERYTHING is Josh’s most personal album to date.

“This album is influenced by what I’d have to describe as the most intense few years of my life. I feel like I’ve come through those years richer for those experiences.”

As with all of Josh Pyke’s recordings, THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF EVERYTHING is a record of a period of time in Josh’s life. For Josh, albums are a way of leaving a body of work documenting and explaining where he was at that time, and we should all be glad that these experiences led him to write the 11 beautiful songs that make up this stunning record.

At 17, Georgi won Song Of The Year WAMi for ‘Breakfast in Bedlam’ and in 2010 won the MySpace/Sony/fbiradio National Songwriting competition for ‘You & Me’. This year she secured herself the coveted APRA Professional Development Award for her breathtaking song writing ability. Georgi is also the co-writer and vocalist on Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl’s platinum-selling single ‘In My Mind’ which also won Best Dance Release at the 2012 ARIA Awards. In My Mind was recently nominated for a Grammy for best remix and has now sold over a million copies worldwide!

Earlier this year Georgi Kay played the role of “the troubled” Melissa in the Jane Campion directed television miniseries, Top of the Lake. Filmed in Otago, New Zealand, the mini-series also stars Elizabeth Moss, David Wenham, Holly Hunter and Peter Mullan. Georgi originally went to auditions on a whim for an extras role but Campion took a shine to the hopeful who had brought along her guitar to pass the time. As well as the acting role, three of Georgi’s songs appear in the series. To top it all off Georgi was personally invited to appear at Sundance Film Festival in Utah where the series received a standing ovation.

Georgi Kay’s debut release on Ivy League will be out later this year and the first taste of things to come, her track ‘Ipswich’ (which features in Top Of The Lake), is already receiving airplay on Triple J. Written whilst vacuuming, ‘Ipswich’ is darker than Georgi’s previous work, drawing on her love of horror/supernatural films.

With and EP and shows in the works, 2013 is set to be a breakout year for Georgi Kay and we can’t wait to watch it all happen. Watch this space!

THE RUBENS have just returned from a month long stint in Europe and the US playing debut headline shows and SXSW. The buzz the lads have created for themselves stateside has been pretty impressive and they failed to disappoint curious SXSW goers. The NY Times called them one of their “bands to watch” and likened them to The Animals. Taking it! The lads played each show like pros but in particular blew everyone apart during their Warner party and Aussie BBQ sets. The lads are building quite a reputation for their live show and we can’t wait for the home crowd to be amazed all over again on the Never Be The Same tour.

The timing of all this great news couldn’t better because to coincide with the upcoming tour, Ivy League is releasing a deluxe album package of THE RUBENS’ debut self-titled album. A stallar debut that landed at #3 on the ARIA Album chart, #1 in the iTunes Album chart and certified gold late last year! Out 26 APRIL, the deluxe package features a previously unreleased track and 7 live recordings from their sold out show at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre late last year. This celebration of THE RUBENS’ spectacular journey undertaken so far will be available in stores and via iTunes.
